In Australia there are currently four insulin pump systems available that can be used as part of an automated insulin delivery (AID) system when paired with a compatible continuous glucose monitor (CGM). These systems all use a different algorithm that can automatically adjust insulin delivery based on glucose readings, which aims to support people with diabetes to spend more time within their glucose target range.
The Insulin Pumps and their AID Systems are: Minimed 780G with SmartGuard, Tandem TslimX2 with Control IQ, YpsoPump with CamAPS FX and Omnipod 5 with SmartAdjust.
Some people with diabetes also choose to use do-it-yourself (DIY) looping systems, which combine certain pumps and CGMs with open-source software to automate insulin delivery. These systems are not commercially regulated medical products in the same way as the approved pump systems above, so it’s important for people to discuss their options with their diabetes healthcare team when considering different technologies.
We’ve put together a Side-by-Side Comparison Chart of all the regulated AID Systems to help you get started in understanding your options. You can read it in our free resources section here: https://www.australiandiabetestechnology.com/insulin-pumps-and-cgms

An insulin pump delivers rapid-acting insulin continuously via a small cannula that sits underneath the skin (known as the infusion set), giving you more flexibility and more precise dosing compared to Multiple Daily Injections (MDI).
A CGM continuously tracks glucose levels, using a small sensor under the skin, providing real-time insights and alerts.
Most people benefit from using both together, which enables automated insulin delivery. We’ll help you understand what might work best for you abased upon your goals and lifestyle.

An Automated Insulin Delivery System (also known as a Hybrid-closed loop system) combines an Insulin Pump and a compatible Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM).
These devices communicate with each other and using an algorithm (brain of the system), the Insulin Pump will automatically increase or decrease the insulin delivery based upon the real-time CGM readings.
